Baked Bean Casserole

Baked Bean Casserole or Tavce Gravce in Macedonian is a traditional Macedonian dish. Healthy, nutritive and delicious. My recipe is vegan, but you can make it with some bacon, sausages or fish.
  • 500 grams (17 oz) beans
  • 1 onion
  • 2 red peppers
  • some pepper
  • some oil
  • some salt
  • some black pepper
  • some dried mint
Put the beans in cold water and let it stay in the water for 2 hours. Then drain it and put it in a pot with water and leave it to boil. After the water starts boiling you drain the water and fill the pot with cold water. You return the pot on the cooker.
Add the onion to the beans. Add the red peppers too. Boil the beans until they are soft. You can add some extra water if you need.
Put some oil in a pan, take out the onion from the beans, mash it and put it in the pan. Fry it for a couple of minutes. Then pour the oil and onion in the pot with the beans. Add all the spices and mix everything well.
Heat the oven to 250 degrees C. Pour the beans in a baking pan and bake it for 20 minutes.
