Chocolate Pie

Chocolate Pie

I will start with a simple, easy-to-follow but delicious, chocolate pie. I love pies and I love chocolate so this was the perfect choice for my first post. For this recipe you will need
For the dough:
  • 150 grams ( 3/4 cup) butter
  • 300 grams (1 1/4 cup) flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoons cold milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
For the filling:
  • 5 eggs
  • 200 grams (3/4 cup) chocolate
  • 80 grams (1/4 cup) ground almonds
  • Vanilla extract
  • Rum
  • Some almonds for decoration

In a large bowl stir together the flour and salt. Using a knife or a fork cut the butter into the flour mixture until the texture resembles coarse cornmeal. Add the milk and mix with a fork until the dough pulls together.  Put the dough on a work surface, pat into a ball and flatten into a disc. Put it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

While the dough is in the fridge let’s make the filling.
Beat the 5 yolks, melt the chocolate and add it to the yolks together with the ground almonds. Beat the egg whites separately and then add them to the yolks mixture. Add some rum and some vanilla extract.

Take the dough from the fridge and put it on a working surface. Whack it with a rolling pin to flatten it out. Transfer it to the pie pan.
Put the filling on top of the pie dough.  Put it in the oven  at 200° and bake for 25 minutes.
Serve it hot or cold.
